Hi Fans,
Sketch of a portrait
Mound
Kevin Sorbo was born
in Mound, Minnesota, United States of America. This town is Kevin's place of
birth. Unfortunately, there are only a few information accessible about this
place with approx. 8.000 inhabitants. Maybe one of you knows a little more
about this suburb of Minneapolis. I would be very thankful to get further
information to complete this sketch accordingly. Or maybe one of you already
visited this town and could write a small travel report for us about the
countryside, the people and the impressions. As far as I know Kevin's
parents still live in Mound, in a house which Kevin bought for them. In 1997
Kevin opened a park in Mound.
'Mound' is also the name for artificial prehistoric hills close to the spring of the River Mississippi, as well as in Middle- and South America. These hills can be up to 30 metres high and were used as places of cultural interest and as graves.
MinnesotaDid you know that
Kevin is also very interested in music? He started to play the quitar five years
ago and writes his own songs.
He started to play the trumpet a little earlier,
but he thinks he is no that good and has to train his lips to get better. Well,
in this training he could be assisted by his wife. His wife? Yes, you have not
misread it! On January 5, 1998 Kevin married his acting colleague Sam Jenkins,
who changed her name then into Sam Sorbo. But back to the music: Elivis Presley
is still the king for Kevin. And he admits to be a great fan of the rock 'n
roll legend and his work. He also likes to listen to the music of James Taylor,
The Eagles, Pink Floyd and R.E.M. And he also listens to country music, for
example Garth Brooks or the Irish band U2, the last one particularly if he can
play his guitar to it. His musical taste is widespread as you can see!
Favorite movies? Kevin loves movies of the 30ies and the 40ies, actors like Spencer Tracy, Laurence Olivier or Anthony Quinn (Zeus in the Hercules movies), who he had the honor to play with. That was something really special for Kevin. New Zealand: Kevin lived there down under while he was playing Hercules in "Hercules:The Legendary Journeys". He had rented a house in Auckland, that's on the north island of New Zealand. Food: Kevin's favorite food is Italian. But he can also give up his resistance for too much calories if he can get a Thai-chicken or spicy Mexican food. His car: Well, Kevin is tall, so he needs a big car. Right at the moment he drives a Lincoln Navigator *.
Hercules
developped problems with his back for Kevin, caused by beating up bad guys
in boots that didn’t support his feet. Then special boots were developped
for him with gym shoes inside. (Besides he suffered on problems with his
shoulders and neck once and had to visit a chiropractor.)
March 1995: He had to be sewn with 9 stitches on the back of his head, after Michael Hurst had injured him accidentally during a sword fight (episode: „The Warrior Princess“) and inflicted a wound with the length of 6 cm.
During a stunt (episode:
"Vanishing Dead") he drove a nail 2 cm deep into his hand, after a fall,
got stab wounds now and then (but never too bad), has been „heated“ during a
pyrotechnical effect, but not injured, many cuts and bruises on arms and
legs, sprained wrists and ankles, once he missed the mat on which he was
supposed to land and thudded on solid ground, during a fighting scene a
weightlifter-champion from New Zealand, weighing 200 kg, accidentally beat
him so hard that he lost two of his teeth.
Kull:
At the set of „Kull“ Kevin stepped on a sea urchin and injured his foot.
In September 1997 (when he was promoting „Kull“ in the USA), an aneurysm developped, a perilous damage in the left shoulder. It was treated with surgery and medicine, after this he felt well, but nevertheless decided to stop working at the movie „Black Dog“ for the time being and took a well-deserved break, until he returned to „Hercules“ in November 1997. No further causes were found for the aneurysm.

Welcome to Mound, the city for all seasons
We are building a better community
As the City of Mound edged closer to the 21st Century, it was obvious to
residents and visitors alike that downtown Mound was experiencing the same
business decline and resulting problems found in many small community
business districts.
In the early 1990's, the Economic Development Commission, paneled by local
citizens together with a consulting firm, was established to develop a "vision"
for what, how, and when the City of Mound could and should evolve. Their
charge was to retain its small town charm and natural downtown features
while providing a business and shopping environment that would appeal to its
growing cosmopolitan population. This became the Mound Visions Program with
three distinct phases undertaken to re-awaken the spirit and vibrancy of
downtown
The City of Mound is surrounded by Lake Minnetonka, the premier resort lake
of the late 1880's and early 1900's. It was the vacation spot of Presidents
and captains of industry alike. Today, it remains a highly sought-after
location in which to visit and live. The Mound Visions Program called for
downtown Mound to re-capture the charm of Lake Minnetonka by developing
structures, with a mix of residential and business, that resembled the
historic, resort-type architectural theme. Additionally, it called for
re-opening a long-abandoned access channel, to Lake Minnetonka via Lost
Lake, with a trail system and city docks available for public use during the
day.
As visualized in the above photos, the Mound Visions Program is successful.
Phase I has been completed and Phase II is well underway and nearing
completion. The community is excited and looking forward to beginning and
completing the final phase, Phase III.
